All Natural, Homemade Cheese Sticks

Eating healthy shouldn’t mean having to cut out your favorite foods & cheese sticks are one of my absolute favorites!  This recipe is so simple & fast plus it is a much healthier option to the traditional breaded & deep fried cheese stick.


  • Natural mozzarella cheese block, look for low-fat or skim
  • Whole wheat flour
  • Egg whites
  • Ian’s All Natural Panko Bread Crumbs either Italian or Whole Wheat, Ian’s is the absolute best & ONLY brand of natural panko break crumbs I have been able to find
  • Olive oil spray
  • Sea salt & pepper
First preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

1. Cut mozzarella into six 1/2-3/4 inch blocks.

2. Toss cheese stick into whole wheat flour.

3. Dip cheese in egg whites.

4. Cover cheese with bread crumbs.

5. Place breaded cheese stick on a cooling rack that is on a cookie sheet, spray with olive oil spray & sprinkle with sea salt & pepper, this lets the cheese sticks get crispy from every angle without having to turn them.

6. Bake for about 8-10 minutes or until cheese begins to drip down onto the cookie sheet.  Then turn oven to broil for about 3-5 minutes but watch them carefully so they do not burn.

Yum!  Healthy (HOMEMADE) cheese sticks.  I’ve had trouble with all of the cheese melting out but they still taste great & are less calories if this happens.  Just adjust your baking time to your oven.

    You can easily do your own bread crumbs ! All you need is old pieces of bread (the crust that nobody wants to eat & always end up in the trash) that you let dry for a few days in a paper bag 🙂 Put that in a blender (with optional spices), blend to get crumbs 🙂
